A36 steel is the common type of steel used in
construction, it is commonly addressed as mild steel in South East Asian
Region. ASTM A36 strictly regulated by American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) special designation for
carbon steel. Unlike higher-performance alloys, its properties allow the steel
to be used in many applications. Beverly Steel supplies ASTM A36 steel plate
from various origins such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and
China. Hot rolled 5mm minimum thickness comes with the width size of
2meter(2000mm) maximum is our major strength in fulfilling your request of your
projects. Special width size of 3.9meter(3900mm) comes with 8mm thickness and
above are available upon special request.
Steel
Composition
Steel alloys have differing amounts of other materials, such as
carbon, nickel, manganese, tungsten and molybdenum on top of major
material-iron. The different compositions create different properties among
alloys that affect the modulus of elasticity, measurement of stiffness and
toughness etc. Modulus of elasticity is used to calculate when a piece of steel
will deform too much to carry a load safely. Other properties of steel include
yield strength-maximum stress before the steel deforms permanently, allowable
bending stress- stress the steel can safely carry before contorting out of
plane and ultimate limit-stress at which the steel will completely fail.
ASTM
A36 Steel Properties
ASTM A36 significantly offers a yield strength of 36,000 psi and
an allowable bending stress of 22,000 psi. The properties of ASTM A36 steel
allows it to deform steadily as stress is increased beyond its yield strength
in order to allow the buildings to stand long enough after the of a structure have been met in an emergency thus allowing
the inhabitants to exit safely before collapse takes place. Other high-performance
steels, such as bridge strand, are extremely strong but brittle, and there is
minimum deformation before the bridge strand breaks violently.
Uses
As illustrated above, ASTM A36 is the most common type of steel
alloy used for most building components, including columns, beams, decking and
finish elements. However, the ductility of ASTM A36 doesn't allow the alloy to
beused as cable nor as reinforcing bar (rebar). Nevertheless, the majority of
other uses are perfect for ASTM A36.
